How to Install Tablet UI On T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T989 With FoxstarMOD TabletUI Hybrid ROM

Did you ever wish to enjoy tablet like User interface in your smartphone? If yes, then your dream has come true. FoxstarMOD TabletUI Hybrid ROM for the T-Mobile Galaxy S2 has made it possible, but as depicts from the name, it is  only for Galaxy S II. Currently, this Rom is in beta phase, but we have tested it on our device and found it working like a charm except few issue listed below. It is actually a CM9 based android 4.0 ICS Rom and specifically design to work on 4.5″ android based mobile devices.

Some Issues:

  • No support for camera
  • Few graphics related issues
  • Not supported 2G networks yet
  • Gives error “SIM network Unlock PIN”. Just cancel it.
  • It reads cards attached via USB cables.
  • Use system tuner to change the governor. Else you will face fast battery drainage.

Important Note: As we mentioned above, it works only on Galaxy S II with model number SGH-T989. Don’t try this guide if you don’t have this specific device.



This ROM is in beta stages and has couple of bugs in it as well. Try it entirely at your own risk. Androidistic will not be responsible for any damage to your device while following this guide. Proceed only if you know what you are going to do.

STEP 1:  First of all make a full back of the data in your device including SMS, contacts, media files and settings.

STEP 2: Install Clockworkmod Touch recovery.

STEP 3: Now it’s time to download the ROM.

Download FoxstarMOD TabletUI Hybrid ROM

STEP 4: Simply copy the downloaded compressed file in SD card of your device.

STEP 5. Reboot your phone in recovery mode. If you don’t know how to do so. Follow these steps

  • Switch off your mobile
  • Press Volume UP + Volume Down + Power buttons simultaneously until you see a glow on screen.

STEP 6. Before proceeding ahead, let’s make a backup of your existing Rom to stay safe in case of any mishap during the guide. Go to Backup and Restore -> Backup. Save the backup file in your computer.

STEP 7: Now format the system, data and cache of your device.

STEP 8: Go to main recovery menu and select “Install Zip”. Browse for the downloaded Rom you placed in SD card and confirm to start installation.

STEP 9: Once installation is complete, simply reboot your device.

STEP 10: You are done. Your  phone  will reboot with completely new interface. You can adjust the setting as you like from the settings menu.
